USA Gymnastics is pleased to announce the selection procedures for the 2009 World Age-Group Team that will travel to St. Petersburg, Russia next November. Athletes, ages 11-18, who are Level 10 and higher, are eligible to compete at three events to qualify to the Final Selection Event (FSE) in Las Vegas, Nev., September 25-27. Qualifying events to the FSE are the two national invitational events, Winter Classic (Birmingham, Ala., Mar. 6-8), and U.S. Elite Challenge (Ft. Smith, Ark., May 8-10), and either J.O. National Championships (San Jose, Calif., Jun 23-29) or Visa Championships (Dallas, Texas, Aug. 13-16).
For the two national invitational events, and for Visa Championships, the athletes will be divided into the appropriate age groups to determine qualifiers to the FSE. J.O. Championships will use the appropriate age groups, the exception being the 17 & Over age group, of which only the 17-18 yr. olds will qualify. The top two in each age group for each discipline, for both Level 10 and Junior Elite, will qualify from both the Winter Classic and U.S. Elite Challenge. The top four from Level 10 at J.O. Championships and top four Junior Elites from Visa Championships in each age group for each discipline will qualify to the FSE.
At the Final Selection Event in September, all athletes will compete in preliminaries and finals. The WAG Team will be named following the FSE. See the WAG Selection Procedures for complete information.
