The 2011 Future Star Camp was held in Lake Placid, New York at the US Olympic Training Center. Thirty gymnasts were invited to this year's camp that took place August 27th-31st.
The camp this year was lead by Brooke Bushnell Toohey, Future Star Coordinator. Iliana Ivanova, Mila Harty & Sonya Yankova, US National Team Ballet coach were our incredible staff this year! We focused our practices around basic technique of the body and the equipment. Towards the end of the camp we began to add in more complicated apparatus elements and fun handling to keep the gymnasts and coaches inspired and motivated! The gymnasts also enjoyed dancing each day with Brooke Toohey. This was not only fun but also it helps the girls work on expression, personality & self-confidence. Training included two three-hour practices a day. Each night we did fun activities with the girls. They used time to reflect on the day & write in their journals about things they learned or need to work on when they return home. Arts & crafts and scavenger hunts are always fun after a hard day of practicing!
The Future Star camp was again fun and productive. The coaches and athletes left the facility inspired, more knowledgeable and happy! This continues to be a wonderful opportunity for everyone involved. Our hope is to continue to grow and improve the Future Star program and to educate the young gymnasts and coaches in the United States. A big thank you to all the staff for their dedicated work. We hope to see you all next year. Good luck to everyone in 2012!
