Who: Competitive coaches working with athletes at Levels 1, 2, 3 and/or Xcel (PREP) for Women's, Rhythmic, Trampoline & Tumbling, and Acrobatic Gymnastics. Also for coaches of Gymnastics for All Levels A and B, gymfest, and team gym athletes.

Note: For all other levels of competition, a coach must be registered as a Professional Member.

Membership is required for participation in any USA Gymnastics sanctioned event.


Requirements: Introductory Coach membership will be granted after the application is processed and the individual has successfully completed the Safety Certification Course and the background screening process.

Cost: For the 2011-12 competitive season (August 1, 2011 - July 31, 2012) The costs listed above are for one gymnastics discipline.

Membership Terms:
  • Membership is valid for one year based on the month of registration. For example, if an individual registers on June 5, 2010, the membership will be valid until June 30, 2011.
  • All fees and memberships are both non-refundable and non-transferable!

Additional Information:
  • Normal processing time for mailed/faxed registration is 3-4 weeks from the date of receipt in our office and for online registration processing time is 2 business days.
  • As long as a membership number can be verified by our online search, a member is permitted to be on the floor at any USA Gymnastics sanctioned event.

Q: Who should become an Introductory Coach?
A: Anyone who competitively coaches levels 1,2,3, Xcel (PREP), and Gymnastics for All levels A & B, gym fest and team gym and participates in USA Gymnastics sanctioned events.

Q: What are the requirements to become an Introductory Coach?
A: Introductory Coaches are required to complete the USA Gymnastics Safety Certification course. Until the safety certification requirement has been completed the membership will be kept in a pending status.

Q: I need to become an Introductory Coach, what do I need to do to get started?
A: The first step is to register as an Introductory Coach, once the membership has been processed you will be emailed your member number and password. Once you receive information you may then proceed to complete the safety course requirement.

Q: What does it mean for my membership to be in a pending status?
A: Pending status means that not all of the requirements for that membership have been completed. Therefore, while an Introductory Coach member is in pending status they are unable to participate in any USA Gymnastics sanction event, or receive any other benefit. Once the requirements have been fulfilled member will begin to receive benefits.

Q: I am an Introductory Coach member, but I would also like to start competing. Do I also have to register as an athlete?
A: Yes, the Introductory Coach membership will not allow you to compete in any USA Gymnastics sanctioned event. You will need to complete an athlete registration in order to eligible for competition.

Q: I have already paid to become an Introductory Coach for the 08-09 season, but I now need to be a Professional member. Do I register as a new Professional member and receive a new number?
A: No, please call Member Services at 1-800-345-4719 and request that you be upgraded to a Professional member, or you may complete a Professional membership form and fax it to 317-692-5212, if faxing please note that is an upgrade. The upgrade fee is $68. Your membership number will not change. Please note: The professional membership will be placed into a pending status until the background check and/or safety/risk management requirements have been completed.

Q: Can I renew my Introductory Coach Membership online?
A: No, currently the USA Gymnastics online registration system is not set up to renew Introductory Coaches online. Please call, fax or mail in the Introductory Coach application form with payment to renew.

Q: Do introductory coaches receive a membership card in the mail?
A: No, introductory coach membership cards are available to print online only.

Q: Which educational courses are offered to Introductory Coaches at a member rate?
A: While not all of the educational courses are offered at a member rate, the Safety/Risk Management and the online First Aid Basics courses are available at the member rate.
