Faces In The Gym - March 2010

Brooke Norwood Brooke Norwood, 7, began gymnastics less than a year ago. She trains at Remnant Jewels Gymnastics in Pickerington, Ohio, and is coached by Chere Briggs and Rachel Herron. Brooke competed in the Buckeye Classic Gymnastics in February and took First Place All Around with a score of 35.20. Brooke also earned her first-ever first place on floor.

Gwynn Jenkins Gwynn Jenkins recently competed at the Circle of Stars Gymnastics Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind. Out of 454 Level 4 gymnasts she placed first on floor, sixth on beam and 13th in the all-around. Gwynn trains at SIGS and is coached by Ilena Earl.

Morgan Suech Morgan Suech, a Level 4 gymnast of Phantom Gymnastics scored a perfect 10.0 on vault at the Starlight Invitational in Cambridge, Mass. Her all-around score of 37.875 also earned her the first place trophy. Morgan is coached by Chris Wachowiak and Cathie Lowell.

Kristie Martyn Kristie Martyn, 13, Level 8 won balance beam and bars with a 9.20 and 8.975 respectively at the Gatlinburg Gymnastics Classic. She also placed third on vault and floor. She was first all-around with a score of 35.725 for her age group. Kristie represents Tataru's Gymnastics in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Guzzy's Gymnastics Guzzy's Gymnastics recently attended the 2010 Riverboat Classic in Slidell, La. They won first place in the Level 4 competition. McKinley Sellers McKinley Sellers, 7, won the all-around state title at the 2010 Level 4 South Carolina State Meet with a score of 37.725. She also took first on bars and floor. McKinley trains at Gymnastics, Inc. in Myrtle Beach, S.C. and is coached by Taylor Edwards and Paris Zebadua.

Madison Petricka Madison Petricka, 10 years old from Buda, Texas, trains at Olympic Hill Gymnastics. She is training for her first optional season which will begin in January of 2011. She is coached by Jeff Beal, Rachel Tidd, and Joltz Bense. She competed Level 6 in 2009 and was the District 4 Champion with an all-around score of 38.425. She was also the South State Champion with an all- around score of 37.450 and State Champion with an all-around score of 38.125.

Keerston Underkoffler Keerston Underkoffler, 10 years old from Elizabethtown, Pa., is a Level 4 gymnast. This year at state, she placed first all-around in her session with a score of 37.325. She scored 9.55 on vault, 9.325 on bars, 9.3 on beam, and a 9.1 on floor. After all the sessions were calculated, she placed third all-around for the state of Pennsylvania. She is a member of the Gymnastics Center of Hershey, where she is coached by Jessie Deshong.

Sydney Stein Sydney Stein, 12 years old from Mount Prospect, Ill., is a Level 8 gymnast at International Gymnastics in Mount Prospect, IL. At the 2010 Illinois State Championships, Sydney took home the all-around silver medal (in her age group) with the score of 37.025. This season she has achieved several personal best scores on all four events and in the all-around. Sydney is coached by Olympic Champion Natalia Kuchinskaya.

Jessa Justen Jessa Justen, 15 years old from Burnsville, Minn., won her Level 7 state meet this year with an all-around score of 36.975. She took first place on beam, bars, and in the all-around. She took second on vault, and fifth on floor. She trains at Elite Gymnastics Academy.

Serene Thompkins Serene Thompkins, 8 years old from Elkton, Md., won first place in the all-around with the score of 37.0 in her age division, to lead the North Shore Gymnastics Level 5 team to first place at the Barbara Knothe Invitational meet in January. She also took first place on bars and vault. She is trained by her coach and mother Iris Thompson.

Kelsey Martz Kelsey Martz, 10, was a Level 6 gymnast for the 2009-2010 Season. Kelsey is the Ohio Level 6 National Division All-Around (36.350) and Floor (9.50) Champion. She also took second on vault and beam. She is coached by Lorri Robinson, Penny Suter, Emily Hovest, Jeff Boyd and Pam Halker of Halker's Gold Gymnastics.
