Faces In The Gym - February 2010

Kaitlyn Adams Kaitlyn Adams, 13, won first all-around in the 2010 Gumbo Cup. She also took first on Vault with a 9.75, first on beam, second on bars, and third on floor. She is a Level 7 gymnast and trains at Gymnastics Unlimited. She is coached by Kevin and Kristin Anderson.

Alyssa McKee Alyssa McKee, 8, won the Level 5 all-around state title for 2009 with a 35.475 and place first on vault, beam, floor, and second on bars. She also won the all-around Level 4 title in 2008 with a 37.50, and placed first on all events. Alyssa is coached by Mary, Shannon and Cheryl at Wyoming School of Gymnastics Cheyenne.

Ben Verciglio Ben Verciglio, 8, recently competed for Boerne Gymnastics Center boys' team at the Wally Miller Memorial Invitational in Austin. He finished fourth all-around. He also received four medals by placing fourth on pommel horse, fifth on rings, second on parallel bars and third on high bar. Ben is coached by Jack McClure.

Ashleigh Lacey Ashleigh Lacey, 7, currently competes Level 4 and trains at Premier Gymnastics in Lutz, Fla. She began competing Level 2 when she was 4. She was state champion on bars for Level 3 and on vault for Level 4. She was voted "Most Improved" two years in a row by her Level 2 and 3 coaches.

Monmouth Gymnastics - Level 6 Monmouth Gymnastics, coached by Maggie Haney, won the Level 6 Team Championship in New Jersey on January 31, 2010. They went undefeated in their season (September 2009-January 2010). Lindsey McGehee Lindsey McGehee, 4, is a Level 1 gymnast. In her first meet she scored a 31.35 in the all-around. A year later, still competing Level 1, Lindsey's all-around is now above a 36.00. Her top score this season was a 36.975. She has captured first place all-around at each of her meets this year. Lindsey is a member of the Flying Eagles Gymnastics Team from Gym Plus.

Blake Tingzon Blake Tingzon, 8, is a Level 5 gymnast. He competed in the 2010 San Diego Team Cup and went home with five medals, two of them gold. Blake won first on vault and floor. Blake is coached by Sergei Batov, and he trains at Monarchs National Gymnastics Training Center.

Erica Der Mesropian Erica Der Mesropian, 13, took third all-around in Level 6 and first in the junior all-around division at the 2009 Region 1 competition. At the Junior Olympics, she qualified in her ball event. Erica is coached by Arpi Avetyan at Bright Stars Rhythmic Gym.

Ashley Hawkins Ashley Hawkins, 10, is a Level 7 gymnast at Bardstown Gymnastics. She placed third on floor and beam at the 2009 Judges Cup Meet.

ENA Paramus Level 4 Girls Team The Level 4 Eastern National Academy Paramus team won the 2010 Level 4 Novice New Jersey State Competition. The new Champions broke the state record with a score of 115.700. Olivia Dunne scored 38.900 in the all-around to win the title and also took first on bars, beam and floor and second on vault in her age group. Megumi Tamura placed third all-around with a score of 37.95. She was also first on floor and second on beam in her age group. Ashley McKenna placed fourth all-around with a score of 37.725, third on beam and fourth on bars for her age group. Melissa Ricciardi placed first on vault, second on floor and third on bars in her age group. Rhea Jha placed fifth all-around with a score of 37.325, third on vault, fifth on beam and floor for her age group. Annie Hathaway Annie Hathaway, 8, is a Level 4 gymnast at Arena Gymnastics. This was Annie's first year of competition. She started the season with a broken ankle in September and then was hospitalized for a week with severe pneumonia. She missed a month of training as well as half the season of meets. She was so excited to be able to compete in the last 4 meets of the season. The fourth meet was the NJ State Championship where she placed second in the all-around in her age group with a 37.675.

Caylin Smisek Caylin Smisek, 10, competed Level 5 in the Minnesota State competition in December 2009 and took first place on bars (9.8) and floor (9.575) to win the State Meet with an all-around score of 38.025. Caylin trains at Jam Hops Gymnastics. Her team also had a successful undefeated season and took the Level 5 first place team award at State.
