Faces In The Gym - Feb. 2009

California Rhythms California Rhythms level 6 and 7 gymnasts all finished in the top 6 AA at the LA Lights Tournament of Champions. Left to Right: Leslie Potruch (7), Karina Oganezova (7), Nastasya Generalova (6), Leah Bronstein (7), Julie Zaytseva (7). The gymnasts are coached by Iryna Zhurenko and Tatyna Itkina, owner and Head Coach of California Rhythms, Los Angeles, CA.

Julia Ross Julia Ross, age 12, was a 1st year, level 10 gymnast at Browns Gymnastics in Las Vegas, Nev., and spent most of the 2007-08 season on the sidelines due to injuries. She broke her ankle, cut her face open requiring 13 stitches, then pulled a leg muscle. She competed 2 meets before she received the news that it wasn't a pulled muscle, she tore her abductor muscle 80% and was out the rest of the season. Her coaches, Dayna Waroe-Isaacs and Marcelo Figueiredo, petitioned her into regionals, where she amazingly managed four routines and qualified for the region 1 team for nationals. She placed 5th on bars, 16th on vault and 18th on floor. Not to bad for a girl who hadn't had a full workout in over six months! Needless to say, she was very proud of all her hard work and determination to finish out the season!

Bayle Pickel Bayle Pickel, a 12-year-old level 8 gymnast, was recently the All Around, Floor, and Bar champ as well as a member of the first place level 8 team at the Region 5 Cup in Cincinatti, Ohio. She also won the All Around and Bars at level 8 in the Jr. B division of the Sand Dollar Invitational in Walt Disney World, Fla. Bayle trains up to 34 hours a week for Shelly Robinson at U.S. Airborne gymnastics in Ada, Mich. She hopes to someday qualify as an international elite.

Lindsay Baker Lindsay Baker, 7, is the 2008 Northern California State Champion in the Level 4 division. She placed first on Bars, Beam, and Floor. She tied first all-around with a score of 38.475 in all age divisions out of 550 gymnasts. Lindsay finished first all-around in the zone championships leading up to States. Lindsay is coached by Kacee Miller of Galaxy Stars Gymnastics team in Redding California.

Sarah Cerami Sarah Cerami, 14, shown competing at the recent Snowflake Invitational, is a first year level 10 and hopes to compete at the college level someday. Outside of gym she's an A student and also studies flute. She competes for Oroville Gymnastics and is coached by Shaw Carter and Malia O Quinn.

Kimberly Mullenix Kimberly Mullenix, 14, is the 2008 So Cal All Around State Champion in Level 4 13+ Division. She placed 1st on Beam and Floor, 4th on Bars and 5th on Vault with an all-around score of 36.825. She had the 3rd highest AA for all age levels in Level 4. Kimberly trains at Elite Gymnastics Academy and is coached by Olin Eaves.
