Bross wins two medals at '09 Worlds

The 2009 World Gymnastics Championships took place in London, Oct. 13-18, and the USA claimed a total of five medals, including two gold, one silver and two bronze. Bridget Sloan of Pittsboro, Ind., and Rebecca Bross of Plano, Texas, dazzled on the world stage in the women's all-around final, going 1-2 in the all-around rankings. During event finals, the powerful Kayla Williams of Huntington, W. Va., won the gold medal on vault, the graceful Ivana Hong of Allen, Texas, won the bronze medal on beam, and Bross's difficulty-packed skills on uneven bars earned her the bronze medal.

USA Gymnastics: What was the best part of the World Championships trip for you?
Rebecca: The best part of the trip was the all-around finals. Standing on the podium winning a silver medal and hearing the national anthem play was very exciting.

USA Gymnastics: What was it like to compete for the U.S. at the World Championships?
Rebecca: I am very proud to have represented the U.S. It is a big honor and I am very happy to have had the opportunity to compete for the U.S.

USA Gymnastics: What was it like earning a medal for the USA?
Rebecca: I am proud to bring two medals home for our country.

USA Gymnastics: What was the food like?
Rebecca: It was really good. There was one meal I didn't really like but the rest were great.

USA Gymnastics: Who did you room with?
Rebecca: Kayla Williams.

USA Gymnastics: Did you get to sightsee?
Rebecca: Yes. On Monday, Oct. 19 (after the competition), we went on a tour in the morning, then in the evening we went to see the musical Wicked.

USA Gymnastics: What is London like?
Rebecca: It is great. I love the city. It is really nice and very clean!

USA Gymnastics: Do you attend a high school? If so, how did you keep up with homework while you were traveling to the ranch and London?
Rebecca: I am homeschooled.
