Anna Li ended her collegiate gymnastics career at the University of California – Los Angeles after leading the team to the 2010 NCAA title in Gainesville, Fla. It was the highest achievement in a year where Li, the daughter of two 1984 Chinese Olympians, used back-to-back perfect 10s to win the Pac-10 Conference and regional titles on the uneven bars. An eight-time All-American, she was a three-time Pac-10 champion (bars, 2009-10; balance beam, 2007) and won six regional titles (four on the uneven bars, and one each for vault and balance beam).
Prior to her days at UCLA, Li trained with her coaches and parents, Jiani Wu and Yuejiu Li, in suburban Chicago. She competed in the Visa Championships in 2004-05. While finishing her undergraduate degree, she trained at All Olympia Gymnastics Center in Los Angeles. After graduating she returned home to Naperville, Ill., and continued training at her parents' gym, Legacy Elite Gymnastics.
In early July, Li won the uneven bars title and finished third on balance beam at the American Classic, qualifying for her third Visa Championships. At the 2011 Visa Championships, Li performed well on the uneven bars, placing third. Her performance earned an invitation to the selection camps, and she was named to her first World Championships team.
