Connecticut's Old State House is “Gymnastics Central” for Visa Championships and Congress!

The Old State House is and always has been at the center of Hartford. For the 2010 Visa Championships and National Congress it will become “USA Gymnastics Central” for the week of the event!

Old State House History
Connecticut's Old State House sits on land rich with stories. Here, early leaders set the foundation for state governance, politicians debated laws, courts tried criminals and at one point, a “witch” was executed. The site's first state house suffered fire damage during celebrations at the end of the Revolution. Charles Bulfinch, architect of Boston's State House and parts of the nation's Capitol, likely designed this building. Today visitors enjoy the restored legislative chambers, an interactive exhibit about Hartford and a recreation of the building's original 1797 “Cabinet of Curiosities,” featuring everything from an electricity machine to a 2-headed calf. As one of the nation's oldest state houses, Connecticut's Old State House uses stories about government and politics of the past to inspire greater citizen engagement.

USA Gymnastics Central
Begin your visit to Hartford by seeing one of the nation's well-known historical landmarks, right in the center of Hartford. No matter what time of day, The Old State House will be actively entertaining gymnastics fans, coaches, and Congress attendees as it is transformed into “Gymnastics Central” for the event. In the evening, plan to come by the Old State House for post-event celebrations to recognize the success of our gymnasts. From morning fitness activities to post-event hospitality functions, the Old State House will undoubtedly be the host of fun-filled activities in August.
