U101 - Safety & Risk Management
Course Description
The primary goal of this course is to increase safety and risk management awareness. The course has been designed for a variety of audiences - gymnastics coaches, teachers, instructors, club owners, meet directors, judges, athletes and others. The course addresses the two basic areas of risk in gymnastics - risk of injury, which is the primary risk, and risk of a lawsuit. Education, preparation, and vigilance are the primary tools gymnastics professionals need to deal with risk and uncertainty in the sport of gymnastics.
  • The U101 Safety/Risk Management course is offered as an online course and as a live course. Individuals can choose which course they prefer to take.
  • U101 Safety/Risk Management is required for all Professional Members and Junior Professional Members of USA Gymnastics.
  • Re-certifying members can take the course up to one year prior to expiration. New expiration date will be July 31, four years from your expiring year.

The online course takes approximately four to five hours to complete. The Face to Face (live) course is scheduled for five hours.

By Mail or Fax

Online Course
  • Individuals will have access to the online course for 30 days. The course must be completed during that time otherwise you will have to re-register and pay for the course again.
  • Users must progress through each page and chapter of the course before accessing the final test. There is a 25-question final exam which must be passed with 75% or better score.
  • Within 4 weeks following course completion, a certification card and a hard copy of the Gymnastics Risk Management handbook will be mailed to the participant.

  • $65 for USA Gymnastics Members
    Professional, Jr. Professional, Instructor and Athlete (age 14 or older)
  • $85 for Non Members (includes a complimentary Instructor Membership - 18 years and older - A background check is required)

Policies:
  • Online course fees are non-refundable and cannot be transferred to another individual.
  • Course attendees must be a minimum of 14 years old.
Face-to-Face Course
Face-to-Face courses are conducted annually at USA Gymnastics National Congress and Regional Congresses as well as various locations around the country by a National Safety Instructor.
  • The live course includes an open book exam. Exams must be passed with 75% or better score.
  • Course participants will receive a copy of Gymnastics Risk Management handbook at the course.
  • Late and onsite registrants will receive a U101 Safety/Risk Management Course Attendance Verification form which verifies successful completion. These are valid for 60 days. Please keep your verification form with you to present at USA Gymnastics' sanctioned events.
Fees:
  • $5 for Professional Members with current U101 Safety/Risk Management Certificate wishing to re-certify at a face to face (Live) course. This can be done up to one year prior to expiration.
  • $70 for USA Gymnastics Members (SAVE $5 by registering online)
    Professional, Jr. Professional, Instructor and Athlete (age 14 or older)
  • $85 for Non Members (includes a complimentary Instructor Membership - 18 years and older - A background check is required))

Policies:
  • Pre-registration can be done online up to one week prior to the live course. Pre-registration by mail or fax must be received two weeks prior to the course. Late or onsite registrations will incur a $25 fee in addition to the registration fee. Late registrations are not guaranteed course materials or a spot in the course.
  • Registered individuals may cancel their registration and request a refund within 30 days following a course. A 25% processing fee will apply. Course Cancellation and Refund Form
  • Individuals registered for a U101 may transfer their registration to another live U101 course at a different date/time (using the Course Transfer Form). Transfers to another live course must be done at least 2 weeks prior to the new course or late fees will apply. Individuals MAY NOT transfer registration to another type of course or to another individual.
  • Registration is the property of the registrant and cannot be transferred to another individual.
  • Late registration is not guaranteed a book.
  • Course attendees must be a minimum of 14 years old.
  • USA Gymnastics reserves the right to cancel and/or change the date of any live hands-on training course due to lack of registration(s).

USA Gymnastics University
U101 Safety and Risk Management Course is a required course for USA Gymnastics University.

Upon completion of the course, members can print out a certificate of course completion on their USA Gymnastics "My Membership" page. (*Face to Face Course: please allow 3-4 weeks. *Online Course: please allow 72 business hours.)
