Career HighlightsTan helped the U.S. men win the team bronze medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. He claimed his third consecutive U.S. still rings title at the 2008 Visa Championships. He has represented the United States at the World Gymnastics Championships in 2005, 2006 and 2007. In 2007, he helped the team to its fourth-place finish and was fourth on the still rings. A member of Penn State's 2004 NCAA championship team, Tan was the Nittany Lions' first back-to-back NCAA champion on the still rings, earning titles in 2003 and 2004. A six-time All-American, Tan is an assistant on Penn State head coach Randy Jepson's staff. During his senior year in 2004, Tan was a finalist for the Nissen-Emery Award. He was an all-conference selection, winning both the still rings and parallel bars crowns at the 2004 Big Ten Championships. His still rings title was his third-consecutive conference championship in the event. During his collegiate career, Tan never finished lower than third place on the rings at a Big Ten Championship. He graduated from Penn State in 2004 with a major in finance and a minor in economics. Tan, who is of Chinese descent, is the son of Peter and the late Vicky Tan. His older brother Kai Yuan, is a chef.

It was a way to get me out of the house and into something productive. Favorite thing about gymnastics: I love all aspects. That is why I am still doing it today. I love the thrill of overcoming your fears, competing in countries you never dreamed of visiting and sharing it all with friends.
